A good balanced diet is vital for children to develop healthily along with fresh air and regular exercise.
I provide food for the children in my care. Specific meals and snacks will depend on the times of day your child is in my care. I am happy to provide breakfast, lunch and dinner/tea and snacks in between. We will agree the provision of meals and mealtimes once you confirm you wish to take up a place.
If your child has any special dietary needs eg allergy or religious then I will do my best to accommodate these. If your child has a serious allergy, eg nut allergy, this may require you to provide their meals as I cannot guarantee a nut-free environment. I will make all reasonable provision within my home environment to ensure your child is kept safe from their particular allergen.
I will provide a wide range of foods and will expect children to at least try foods provided, even if they then decide they do not like a particular food.
I will record what your child has eaten and approximate amounts in the daily contact book. If you have any concerns regarding diet please do not hesitate to discuss it with me.
I am happy to support you if you are weaning your baby. I am experienced in baby-led weaning and can advise you on this option if you would like to find out more. I can also support your child with conventional weaning.
I do not permit children to have fizzy drinks, unless it is a special occasion and parents have given permission. Children are offered water, milk or fruit juices (diluted in the case of toddlers and younger children).
I offer children fruit and healthy snacks, but also believe that chocolate, biscuits and cake, in moderation, provide part of a healthy and fun diet. Please let me know if you do not wish your child to have snacks such as chocolate, sweets, ice cream, cakes or biscuits as an occasional treat.
I will also involve children in cooking and food preparation appropriate to their age and abilities as this can be an enjoyable activity in itself, as well as an important part of children learning about food, where it comes from and healthy food choices.
